A Typical Day in My Life

Image
I’d like to take the opportunity to walk my visiting bloggers through a day in my life. On a typical Saturday morning, I wake up around 9. I try to go to the gym before doing anything else, so I can get the hard part of my day out of the way nice and early. I spend most of my time running at the gym, as I’m not a huge fan of lifting weights. After I workout , I go home, cook some breakfast, and shower . This is when my day really starts . Next, I usually go grab some iced coffee and stop by my grandma’s house since she lives close by. If I’m feeling productive I will do some laundry or homework. But, if I am feeling lazy I might just watch TV for a bit. I might run some errands or go food shopping, depending on what I’m in the market for that day. Lastly, I either call up my friends to make some dinner plans, or possibly go out to dinner with my family and then see my friends after. Lately there isn’t much to do because of Coronavirus, but I am trying to ke

My New Job

Image
After having a virtual graduation from Siena College this past May, I was pretty positive that I would be still unemployed by September, 2020. Although it is a strange time to start a career in teaching, I was able to start a position as a permanent substitute English teacher in a local middle school. A normal day at work starts at 7:30am, when I enter the main office. I receive my assignment for the day and then report to the corresponding classroom. For some people, I could see how this lack of stability and repetition could be anxiety-inducing . However, I consider myself a go-with-the-flow kind of person, so I don’t mind being in a new room with new students each day. Another great aspect of my job is that I get exposed to all different types of classes. Rather than just seeing an average English class, I’ve gotten to see some exciting science lessons, some intriguing history debates, and even work in a special education classroom as a main teacher. Overall, I’m so please

Folklore Favorites

Folklore Favorites For as long as I can remember, Taylor Swift has been my favorite musician. When she announced that she would be releasing a surprise album this summer, I was over the moon. Normally , Taylor spends months dropping hints and then promoting her new albums , which is why this surprise was even more mind blowing.  What I love most about the new Folklore album is how carefully and meticulously the storyline of each song was planned. Taylor’s concept of “folklore” gracefully allows each song to flow together in a way that lets each song intertwine with recognizable details and characters. The characters Betty and James seem to suspiciously reappear in and out of Taylor’s lyrics on the album, allowing the listener to hear multiple perspectives of this seemingly forbidden love. Evidentially , in the song called Betty, James is apologizing for treating Betty poorly, while the song August tells the story from Betty’s heart broken perspective. Another character on the

The Effects of watching “The Sopranos” I started watching “The Sopranos” last month and as a result, my dreams have been rather wild. I am not used to watching shows filled with such violence and murder, so I assume my subconscious must be absorbing the shocking scenes and mirroring them into my dreams. There was one specific episode that really crept into my dreams was the last episode of season two. In the season two finale of The Sopranos, Tony was sick with food poisoning . He had a strange fever dream in which a fish told him that his partner, Pussy, had been wired by the FBI. Once Tony confirmed that this news was true, he and Paulie took Pussy to go see a boat Tony pretended to be interested in buying. Once the three were alone, Tony asked Pussy why he flipped . Pussy tried to justify his actions stating that he only gave the fed’s “ disinformation ”. This was not a good enough answer for Tony, so he clipped Pussy right in the basement of the boat. Right before Tony pulle

Cooking Dinner

Image
Last night it was my turn to cook dinner. I decided I would try a new chicken francese recipe I saw on  Instagram that I have never tried before. I stopped at  grocery store  on my way home from school and picked up the necessary  ingredients . I carried the groceries inside, cleaned my  produce , chopped my vegetables, and pounded my chicken cutlets until they were thin. I seasoned some sliced potatoes and drizzled them in olive oil before putting them in the oven, knowing they would take the longest to cook. Next, I put a mix of white wine, onions, and heavy cream into a frying pan. I  seared  the cutlets in this mixture until they just started to turn golden brown. Lastly, I  steamed some broccoli florets in the microwave. I put my dirty dishes in the sink to clear off some counter space in order to serve my family their dishes. My parents  raved  over the flavor of the chicken, but were not as thrilled about the mess I left near the stove.   Instagram (noun): social media platform

Cheerleading Competitions

Image
Common and proper nouns   Throughout high school and college, I was a competitive cheerleader . Most people think that being a cheerleader means jumping up and down on the sidelines of a football field, but that is a misconception . As a competitive cheerleader, I trained for approximately  15 hours each week. This training included rigorous dance, stunting, and tumbling work, leaving my body aching after most days. Once a week I would drive out to Plainview for private tumbling lessons from a professional cheerleader named Chad . I often prioritized cheerleading over Trigonometry and Chemistry homework. I personally always felt more proud to be a Long Island Champion rather than a straight A student in Algebra 2 . The rush of landing a round-off back handspring tuck felt a lot better to me than a perfect quiz grade. Looking back, I don’t regret a single sprained ankle or broken finger, because cheerleading was always my true passion. competitive cheerleader ( noun): a che
